01

Identify the market behind the VIN

Collect the VIN, production date, original selling market, first-registration record and service history. A registration year can differ from a model year, while an export listing may translate a trim name loosely. Start with the CX-5 model-year guide when these fields disagree. Use the appropriate official recall channel for the original market and ask the destination representative how imported vehicles are handled. A no-result response from a database that does not cover the vehicle is not evidence that all campaigns are complete.

02

Request campaign status and completion evidence

Save a dated query result and ask for the campaign identifier, affected component and completion record where work has been done. An invoice should identify the VIN and the performed action, not simply say inspection passed. A vehicle can drive normally with an outstanding campaign, so a road test cannot replace this check. If work remains open, ask who can perform it, whether the required part is available and whether the car must be in the original market. Do not describe a campaign as closed on the basis of a seller screenshot without verification.

03

Ask precise questions about warranty portability

Provide the destination, intended use, mileage and service record to the relevant representative. Ask whether the imported VIN is recognised, which coverage remains, what exclusions apply and where claims can be submitted. Keep the response in writing. A transferable domestic warranty is not automatically an international warranty. Likewise, a seller-funded repair promise is not Mazda manufacturer coverage. Do not use a generic warranty duration from a foreign brochure to price the candidate; the contract and market-specific terms must apply to this particular vehicle and owner.

04

Evaluate paid support even when warranty is unavailable

Ask a workshop whether it can obtain service information, diagnostics and parts for the actual engine and drivetrain. Establish lead times for less routine components rather than only oil filters. The imported CX-5 parts guide provides a way to check compatibility without relying on visual similarity. A car outside warranty can still be sensible when competent paid support exists. Conversely, a nominal warranty is of limited practical value if the vehicle must travel back to its original market for assessment or repair.

05

Put promises into an enforceable commercial scope

If the seller offers assistance, ask who pays diagnosis, parts, labour and transport, how approval is obtained and what evidence is required. Set out geographic limits, duration, exclusions and the responsible legal entity. Have material contractual questions reviewed by an appropriate professional rather than relying on a chat phrase such as worldwide support. Keep ordinary wear, disclosed repairs and latent faults distinct. The buyer should know whether a remedy means a replacement component, reimbursement up to a limit or work at a named workshop. Those are commercially different offers.

06

Choose a release condition before shipment

For an unresolved safety campaign, obtain the relevant manufacturer guidance and establish whether and how it can be completed before shipping. Do not invent a universal safe-to-drive answer. If parts are delayed, compare postponement, an alternative vehicle and the documented destination remedy. Preserve the latest campaign check with the loading record because status may change between reservation and dispatch. A clear support file should contain the VIN query, completed-work receipts, written coverage response and a usable workshop contact. Missing evidence should remain a visible buying risk, not be converted into a warranty claim.

Evidence checklist

  • Original-market VIN and campaign query
  • Dated completion receipts for applicable campaigns
  • Written destination warranty response
  • Paid diagnostic and parts support route
  • Separate seller-assistance terms

Buyer questions

Does a clean recall result mean the vehicle is fault-free?

No. It only addresses the database and campaigns queried. Mechanical inspection and service-history checks remain separate.

Can the seller promise manufacturer coverage?

A seller statement is not sufficient. Obtain confirmation from the relevant warranty provider for the VIN, destination and ownership circumstances.

Reference and inspection scope

These are buyer inspection questions, not repair instructions. Use the actual market and year manual; the linked US-market manual does not establish China-market equipment.

Mazda owner manual: market-specific reference, not proof of candidate equipment

CHECK BEFORE YOU BUY

Verify the exact vehicle

Specifications vary by year and market. Match the VIN, vehicle documents, inspection findings and manufacturer service information before purchase.
